Rapid Bay Camping Ground

Looking for a weekend break with (or without) the kids? Why not stop at Rapid Bay Camping Ground for some quiet leisurely camping and beautiful views of the Fleurieu Peninsula’s rugged coastline.

Just 60 minutes south of Adelaide in South Australia lies this quiet town of Rapid Bay located between Second Valley and Cape Jervis. A prominent feature of the town is the Rapid Bay Jetty (often frequented by fisherman) and the Rapid Bay Camping Ground.rapid bay camping australia

The local swimming beach is nestled in a small bay with the Jetty at one end and a huge cave at the other end. All around the town are rolling green hills filled with cows, providing plenty of exploring for the children.

The facilities of the Rapid Bay Camping Ground
  • Two electric BBQ’s
  • Cold outdoor showers and a toilet block
  • Kids play ground
  • Water taps (although the water is not suitable for drinking unless it is boiled first)

There is no booking or specific sites for the camping ground, simply turn up and find a spot for your tent or caravan. The ground surface is very grassy, and flat but there are limited trees providing shade and shelter from the weather. Windy weather would not make it a pleasant stay here.

Rapid Bay camping ground is a pet friendly place, though be sure to keep the dogs on a leash at all times and pick up after them. There are plenty of bins provided for your rubbish. Keep in mind there is no power for electricity and no fires allowed.

Cost

So for just $7 a night per adult and $3.50 for children why not try out this beautiful camping ground. The money will be collected by the managers when they come around at some point during the day so just set up your tent and enjoy!

Best time to visit

Hopefully you can enjoy this place as much as we did when we camped here. We would highly recommend not visiting in the peak times such as long weekends and school holidays for a more relaxed and peaceful stay but it may be hard to escape that in the summer when it is perfect for swimming at the beach.
