Camping at Ardrossan

Purely by accident we ended up booking into a Caravan park at Ardrossan this summer. Everywhere else was full between Christmas and New Years Eve, so here’s the run down.

Oh, and for those who don’t know where the heck Ardrossan is, it is a small town on the east coast of the Yorke Peninsula about 150km from Adelaide by road.

A little advice can go along way, so listen up!ardrossan camping

Camping at Ardrossan Caravan Park

The Caravan Park is located in the centre of town just a 5 minute walk from the jetty (the main beach access). The people managing the Caravan Park are helpful and pleasant and the atmosphere of the park is lively (in the summer). There are plenty of facilities including laundry, amenities, free BBQs, a camp kitchen (fridge, sink, kettle), crab cleaning and cooking sheds and playgrounds.Ardrossan

We enjoyed the green grass at our large unpowered tent site and were extremely grateful we didn’t book a powered site where the tents were pitched on dusty gravel. All the sites are quite generous in size, with room for a large tent and a car, plus something else like a boat or even another tent.

All in all, camping at Ardrossan Caravan Park had everything we needed and the only complaint was that there were a lot of small black ants trying to get to our food. We felt our belongings were quite secure left in the Caravan Park, and there is a boom gate remote to enter the Park with a vehicle, which you receive along with an amenities key when you check in. What does Ardrossan as a town have to offer? Well, to put it simply – nothing, unless you are a keen fisherman or love catching crabs. We were quite disappointed that the beach was not suited to swimming, although it is nice to walk along the jetty where you can observe the towering red cliffs and the busy fisherman.ardrossan camping

If it’s beach you’re after, we recommend Port Vincent because it is just 20 minutes south of Ardrossan. Of course, there are many great beaches on the Yorke Peninsula, so it would be worth exploring others for yourselves.ardrossan beach

Camping at Ardrossan is highly suited to keen fisherman and those looking for time out to do nothing.
